Spring Cleaning Your Storage

Spring is in the air, it’s time for a little cleaning and reorganizing! What better place to start than your storage unit? It’s easy to forget what you’ve got packed away in those boxes or bins, and clutter can build up fast.

Clean out your storage unit

If your storage unit is packed tight, now is a great time to give it a refresh. While having extra space is great for holding on to furniture, antiques, and family mementos, chances are that’s not all that’s in your unit. Storage units often become a catch-all for miscellaneous stuff. Here’s some tips to get rid of the things you don’t need, and give your storage unit a good clean.

If you can, take everything out of your unit and give your storage unit and belongings a quick clean.  Boxes and furniture get dusty no matter where they are, clean up your stuff and give your unit a sweep. Take inventory of what’s in your unit. What can be donated? What do you want to keep? Make piles for what you’re keeping and giving away so you can easily pack up the stuff you don’t want and drop it off at a donation center.

Time to Organize

Get bins or boxes that are the same size. If you can, choose clear plastic bins. This helps you know what’s inside each one without even opening them. Label every box. It’s a great idea to make a list of what you’ve got in your storage unit. Think about what stuff you need to access most frequently? Organize it so those boxes are closer to the front of your unit, and avoid stacking things on top of them.

Cleaning out your storage unit is a wonderful way to keep track of your stuff, donate the things you don’t want, and ensure your belongings stay in perfect condition.

Happy Storing!
